"Nature photography is kind of a prayer…expectation and wish for whatever this beautiful country should have been and still can be.…….Amidst the uncertainty, the wars, and the non ending violence and self absorbed truths also stand the innocence and beauty of the forests, the earth, the streams and the flowers. But they stand embarrassed, lost and blushing from shame waiting for their prayer to be fulfilled."
Dubi Roman
I was born in Haifa in 1957; my art is deeply rooted in my family's spiritual history and geographical location. Roman's family has lived in the holy city of Safed for five generations. Although I live in the heart of Tel Aviv, I constantly look to nature for sustenance and search far amongst the landscape of Israel's trees, fields and flowers. Inspired by Impressionist painting, I developed my unique photographic technique, using nothing but an old Nikon film camera.
My art is created solely outdoors using traditional film cameras, by a unique technique of multiple exposures. Few images were taken with a Nikon D90 digital SLR. No filters are used and there is no lab or computer manipulation.
